Prof. Jesús Miguel-García is the founder and director of the Spanish Institute in Winnipeg.
Award winning and noted educator, he has been heralded by the Winnipeg Free Press as “internationally recognized as a premier linguistic instructor”, “the leading Spanish-language specialist in Winnipeg” (Heather Stefanson, MLA), "ambassador of the Spanish language in Canada" (Diario de Burgos), and “excellent organization” (Ignacio Sánchez, Consul General of Spain).
He was a languages manager at the Open University in the UK. He taught for over twenty years at Newcastle University, Sunderland University, Northumbria University, and Canadian universities.
Prof. Jesús Miguel-García graduated with First-Class Honours in Education, finishing first in his university. He went on to study Linguistics and Literature at Valladolid University, Spain. After being awarded the prestigious Erasmus scholarship from the European Union, he continued his studies at Newcastle University. He has a Master’s degree in Teaching and a Master’s in Knowledge and Information Society. He then went on to do his PhD in Knowledge Management.
He has been interviewed and featured for his expertise by the British Broadcast Corporation, CBC, local and international newspapers, radio and television.
As a public speaker, he has given lectures at European and Canadian universities, as well as numerous institutions and associations in North America and Europe.
He has received the MTS Pioneers Business Award; Star of the City Hospitality Award, from the Mayor of Winnipeg; the Order of Rizal, Philippines, for his “exemplary service”; and a nominee for the Award for Excellence in Teaching at the University of Winnipeg and the Lieutenant Governor’s Award.
He is the founder and director of Translators for Charity, an international network of professional translators, with its head office in Winnipeg.
